Do you want to hike on the Tour des Dents-du-Midi under the stars?

By scrupulously respecting certain rules, you will be welcome. On the Tour des Dents-du-Midi, you will find many accommodations and you will cross several livestock guarding dogs protecting the herds.

Legal requirements on the Tour

Camping in the wild is generally prohibited in Switzerland. The legal provisions are the responsibility of the canton, but most often the communes. Within the same canton, there may be differences. In general, it is possible to sleep one night (not in a group) in the mountains, beyond the forest boundary and emergency bivouac is always possible.

The Police regulations of the communes crossed by the Tour states: “Camping, caravanning and anything assimilable to them are prohibited outside the locations expressly designated as such by the Authority.” There is no camping space on the Tour. It is, however, possible to bivouac at certain locations or by arranging with the hosts.

It is expressly forbidden to camp in some protected areas, while other areas are prohibited access. Consult the map of natural reserves and vulnerable habitats in the Swiss Confederation when planning your Tour.

The rules to follow

  • Do not settle anywhere, both for your safety and for the environment.
  • Respect nature, choose a suitable location (private grazing, respect protected areas).
  • Watch for wildlife, avoid making noise.
  • Leave the site in the same condition as you found it.
  • Take away your waste, do not leave it in the wild or in accommodation.
  • Do not fire, it is dangerous, and it disturbs wildlife.

If you camp near lodging accommodation, contact the hosts before your arrival to know their conditions. Do not use the infrastructure without asking permission.
